What is the NYFC?
Northern Youth Football and Cheer (NYFC, formally the NYRA) is a non-profit, recreational organization devoted to teaching youth football and cheerleading to children in the Northern York County School District.  Our objective is to establish and maintain programs of supervised football and cheerleading for boys and girls through the development of SPORTSMANSHIP, PHYSICAL HEALTH and COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

Why should my child join?
We are striving to be the best youth football and cheerleading organization within the Harrisburg Area. We love football and cheerleading and we want your child to love it too! We believe in winning, but we know that it is only accomplished through hard work and commitment. We have excellent coaching staffs who want to teach the fundamentals of the game to each participant. Our coaches have played in youth football, high school, and some have even played in college.

Who can join?
Boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 as of April 30th.

How are children separated into teams?

Football teams are organized by age. Teams are structured as follows:

  • Smurf: 5-7 years old
  • Peewee: Generally 8-9 years old
  • Pony: Generally 10-11 years old
  • Midget: Generally 12-13 years old

Cheerleading squads are organized by grade and are structured as follows:

  • Smurf: Grades 1 and 2
  • Peewee: Grades 3 and 4
  • Pony: Grades 5 and 6
  • Midget: Grades 7 and 8

When are the games?
All home games are played at the high school football field and are usually on Sundays.  Away games can be on Saturday or Sunday.  Game times are determined by the home team and can vary from team to team.  As soon as the current year's schedule is finalized by the CFA it will be posted.

How long is the season?
The season begins with a training camp for both football and cheer the first week in August.  Practices begin the following week and are held each week throughout the season. Prior to school starting, Football practices 4 days a week and Cheer practices 3 days per week.  Once the school year begins, Football practices 3 days per week and cheer practices 2 days per week.  Refer to the season calendar, once posted, to see specific dates and times. The last season game is the third weekend in October; however there are playoff games, a Super Bowl and league tournaments that run through mid November.

Are the games free to attend?
No. Admission to the games is not free. Each organization within the league sets their admission fees at the gate. Admission is generally $5.00 per adult, $3.00 per student. Players, cheerleaders and coaches are not required to pay admission. Coaches will  need to show their CFA issued photo badge that will be provided to them at all home and away games.

What league does the NYFC belong to?
We belong to the CFA League.  We are in the Federal West Conference playing teams West of the Susquehanna. For more information on the CFA League, please see their website at, www.cfayfl.com.
